Alive, But Stumbling Again (10/18/2011)

It’s been a while since my last post, yes I’m alive. I took a vacation up to NYC Thurs-Sunday to see some family and friends. It was fun, but pretty much 3 nights of senseless drinking. I logged a +1k night the Wednesday before I left. I get back Monday to of course play 8 hours and lose the money right back, around -$950.
I’m still up close to +2k in the last 135 hours. Not good at all, but enough to survive barely. However, the first 74 hours of this month have ended in break even hell, actually just kidding I’m up like +$50. Much of my October volume has been derailed by being sick and then going on vacation. Still 74 hours logged isn’t terrible, but nothing can really go right for me. I had won 9 out of 11 sessions for +$1800, then I play Monday and everything goes to hell. I didn’t play bad, just massively coolered twice by a really bad player who hits 2 sets on me the span of 2 hours (good-bye $650). Then nothing goes right the rest of the night (good bye $200 more). And sweet, so much for running ok for a night.
Now it’s back to the grind until a short Thanksgiving break. I’m still aiming to finish October with around 160 hours logged.
Bankroll and Going Forward:
I currently have just over 60 buy-ins for my 2/5 live bankroll (About 31k). I most likely wouldn’t consider dropping to 1/2 until I only had 20k left for a bankroll. I would probably not consider taking shots at 5/10 until I had a 50k bankroll. Around 20k I would have to consider:
A) Dropping to 1/2
B) Thinking of a way to get additional investment to keep playing 2/5 comfortably
Or
C) Getting another job until I can build up a roll of 50k.
The fastest way I could build up a 50k bankroll with another job is getting into commercial real estate with my father. This would require getting some licensing, a lot of work, and temporarily slashing my poker volume.
“C” is a difficult option for me to consider. But I’m not sure I would want to attempt to grind out 10k on top of living expenses playing 1/2. I mean I think I could do it, but the question is would the torture really be worth it? If I only had a 20k it would be very difficult to even add 10k to my roll playing 1/2, considering my rent and living expenses that must immediately go out of my winnings. I’m not sure if I have it in me to drop and DO THAT. I probably do, but that really might be a shitty life. Just things to consider.
On paper just over 30k is a fine bankroll for 2/5 live. But I only have rent and living expenses set aside for about 3 more months, so if I run bad I might have to start pulling more out. I’m a bankroll nit as you can see. But I just came off the worst month of my career and started October break-even in 70 fucking hours so I’m starting to worry and prematurely question everything too much.
I think with my current skill level going forward I should really be able to average at least $25 an hour playing 2/5. If I can do that I can pay my living/rent expenses while adding at least 2k directly to my bankroll each month. So I guess it’s time to start running average a month? This has been very hard for me to do. I know plenty of regulars who aren’t as good as me, but make a lot more than $25 an hour for extended periods of time, but that’s my shit life for the time being. As long as my bankroll is hovering in the low 30k range and I'm hitting break even stretches I will be stressed out to an extreme.
I should play 5 nights from Wed-Mon so I will try to keep posted on the short term results.
