After many years of going to school and saying no to drugs I graduated with a degree!  Little did I know it would lead me to being beaten into the ground at the hands of a soulless corporation.  After 3 years I quit to play poker professionally.  I've now been full-time over 7 years, yet revenge is still in the air.  It's crazy to look back and realize I started this blog as I was simply 'pumping myself up' to quit the real world and go full time.  Now I also do some writing for fun as a 'day job' (some freelance and paid, but an insignificant sum compared to 5/10 live) and airbnb my place when I don't feel like playing as much.

Sunday/Monday 6.6.2010 Updates (Part III)

Session Overview:

Hours Played:  4

Time:  12:00 a.m- 4:00 a.m

Hands 2,117

Net Loss:  -$90

Technically very early 5:00 a.m Monday morning here.  Just finished up the third session of the day.  Down -$90 in 4 hours, extremely frustrating results.  I played fine, but continued to run like absolute shit.  It was really unbelievable.  To fight that hard and still end up down.  5 Enormous pots lost in the span of an hour was just amazing.  Every time I was 70% + to win and could not hold.  If I hold TWO of these fucking pots I'm at least even for the session:

AQ < AJ all in preflop.  -$60

After fucking with this guy for about an hour, he finally grows some balls.  He snap calls $30 all in preflop and JACK-TOWN BABY WHAT DO YOU KNOW.  HOLY SHIT!!

KK < QQ all in preflop.  -$50

The flop?  You guessed it a bitch queen.

AK < QK all in preflop.  -$50

The flop?  You guessed it A SLUT-BAG MOTHER FUCKING QUEEN.  HOLY SHIT!!

AK < JK all in preflop.  -$40

Another incredible cold call for $18 with JK offsuit.  He happened to be holding a jack of clubs, and 4 clubs ran out by the river smashing my top pair ace flop.  Did I mention I hate my life?

AK < AT all in preflop.  -$40

TEN ON THE RIVER!  BINGO.  Another awesome $20 cold call pre with AT.

Moving On:

The pots above accounted for $250 alone.  Looking at everything I have no idea how the fuck I was only down -$90 in these 4 hours, I should be absolutely thrilled.  Tonight I'm going to have a nightmare.  There is going to be a dude wearing a shirt that says "4 FUCKING OUTS".  He's going to run up and STAB ME in a dark alley.  That will be my nightmare tonight, I just guarntee it.  Oh and the back of his shirt?  You guessed it, A BITCH MOTHER FUCKING QUEEN.

That said I feel fine right now.  I'm very happy with the way I played, I can't control four 4-outers hitting on me in the span of an hour.  There is nothing I can do except keep making the right plays.

I played well over 9 hours today so I'm pretty damn exhausted.  I also played tennis through a rainstorm earlier, which was badass and totally worth it.  I'm not sure if I can keep up this ridiculous pace poker-wise this week, but I'm going to keep pushing myself.  I had fun tonight despite getting four outered to hell.  And putting a positive spin on things I was still up around +$90 for the 9.5 hours combined.  And the goal isn't even the net profit right now, it's just clearing those damn VPPs.  If I kept running like this the entire week and still found a way to break even at the end of the week I would be happy with that result.

Should fall asleep around 5:00 a.m and wake up at 1:00 p.m.  Looking forward to a long run on secluded trail to clear my head during the afternoon tomorrow.  I'm also looking forward to putting in another 6-8 hours tomorrow night, as sick as that sounds.  I maturely leave you with this:

SLUT-BAG BITCH MOTHER FUCKING QUEEN!

Bags,

Your last few posts seem to indicate you are maturing as a player. You are absolutely right that you have done your job well when you get the money in ahead. Casinos make tons of money exploiting small edges in high volume over time. You will, too. I admire your perseverance. You are playing through adversity and still demonstrating the will to play on - which is in itself an accomplishment. The money does matter - just not while you are playing.
You are also well positioned for poker success since it seems you have no major leaks away from the game like dice or sports wagering. Keep grinding. I think you will achieve your current short term goals and the question will be what to do next. Good luck.

Lucypher,

Very good point on the Casinos making money exploiting small edges in high volume over time. I guess the only difference is they sort of have an unlimited bankroll so variance isn't an issue. Also yeah they mathematically can't make mistakes.

Yes the money matters in the long run, but not while playing. This is a tough concept to completely accept, but the money shouldn't mean much when playing poker.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I have a lot of work to do, but I think I'm on the right path. If this week doesn't go well it's not the end of the world, but I have to keep pushing.
